신비의 상자
박종규의 작품에 대해

장갑(남자 혹은 여자의 손), 그러나 고무로 된 당연히 비밀스러운 트로피와 연결된 잘려진 손, 고무라는 재료는 수술이라던가, 콘돔을 연상케 하면서 그 재료 자체는 부드럽고 살갗은 온기를 담고 있을 수도 있다.
하지만 이러한 일차적인 느낌이외에 거기에는 하나의 작업방식, 쓰인 재료들이 있다.
나무, 콘크리트, 아크릴, 철이 틀을 이루고 촉감성이 가득한 상자를 이룬다. 박종규의 작품은 단지 눈으로 보아야 하는 것이 아니라 만져보아야 할 작품이기 때문이다.
손은, 마치 캔버스 사진이 그렇듯이 틀에 갇혀 있다. 손은 구속에서 자유로워지거나 아니면 인간에게 가장 공통적인 재료, 즉 시멘트 안에서 절망적으로 갇힌다. 하지만 우리자신도 우리 스스로의 건축물 속에 갇힌 몸이 아닐까?
도시, 기차 혹은 필요한 시간동안 그 안에 갇혀 기다려야 하는 교통수단이나 버스정류소 등의 도시공간과 같은 무작위적 열(列)에 따라 정리된 채 건물단지는 보존되고 기다린다.
상자는 관이고 이런저런 성인(聖人)의 유물을 넣고 보관하는 일반적으로 성 유물함이라 불리는 갇혀진 聖유물이기도 하다. 박종규가 쓴 재료는 그의 작품 해석의 방향을 바꾼다고 말할 수 있겠다. 이런 聖像을 두고 우리는 하나의 "절망 오브제" 혹은 "희망 오브제"로 볼수도 있겠고, "상자 오브제"나 "수집 오브제" 혹은 "서랍 오브제" 등등으로 볼 수 있을 것이다.
장갑을 낀 침묵, 소리없는 외침, 말없는 말, 빔과 가득참의 느낌 여기서 인간은 존재하고, 인간은 더 이상 존재하지 않는다. 상자 없는 바깥에서처럼.

Park, jongkyu's work is a piece which needs to be touched and not looked at in order to know this of art.
The hand, like that of a camera or a picture, it is also encaged in a frame.
The hand, eiter becomes free of all things or could be encaged in a common material such as a cement without a hope.
But maybe we are also being encaged within the architectural which we built?
Just like the times we must waist in transportation in the city, and on train or at a bus stop, even the architectural structures must wait for its time for a purpose in the future.
A box is a conffin or refered to as a place where one's objet is kept.
When referring to a holy statue there are many ways of looking at it such as objet of despair, objet of hope, objet of box, objet of colletion, and objet of drawer, etc.
